FAQ

Do I need the password to unlock a PDF?

Yes. Unlock PDF removes encryption from PDFs you have the password for. It is not a password-cracking tool — without the correct password, the file cannot be decrypted.

Is my password sent to your servers?

No. Decryption happens entirely in your browser. Neither your PDF nor your password is uploaded to a server.

What if the PDF only has owner restrictions, no open password?

If the PDF opens without a password but blocks printing or copying, leave the password field blank — we can still strip the restrictions in many cases.

Why does Unlock PDF say my password is incorrect?

Double-check capitalization and language layout. PDF passwords are case-sensitive, and some characters look identical in different scripts (Cyrillic vs Latin, for example).
